The New Year is Nearly Upon Us!!!

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow is the first day of 2014!! Are you excited?! I know I am. I'm not really one of those people who has "New Year's Resolutions", but I do have a few goals for the new year.

In April I will be auditioning for the university level (pre-professional) at my ballet academy. I would very much like to make it into that, so I've already started focusing on staying super fit and really working on my technique. I have a key to my old ballet studio, and I'm allowed to use it whenever I like, so I have taken full advantage of that and I've been going there every day to work out, stretch, and refine my technique before going back to ballet (I've been on break for a couple weeks. I start back up on Monday.).

Another thing I'd like to do this next year is go to a couple really great summer intensives. Since I live in Europe, it shouldn't be too difficult to find some good ones. All of my applications are due in January and February, so I'm starting to get a little nervous. Last year I went to a small summer intensive about an hour away from where I live, which I think helped with my performing abilities (we did a small performance in a lovely theater at the end of the intensive), but I'd like to go to some summer intensives that really push me and help me grow more as a dancer.

And of course, seeing as I'm already sixteen, I'd really like my technique, artistry, musicality, and performing skills to all vastly improve in 2014. I've worked really hard so far, but I feel like I could do even more, push myself further, and really start preparing to become a professional.

I hope you all have a splendid New Year's Eve and New Year's Day!!!

The Nutcracker

Here are a few pictures that were taken during my performance as Sugar Plum Fairy last Thursday. I'm sorry all the pictures are rather blurry.

Reminder: I performed in my old studio's production. It's a pretty small studio that can't afford a fancy backdrop.

I decided that after the performance, seeing as these pointe shoes are quite dead, I would ask all of the soloists from the show to sign my pointe shoes. They are not signed yet because I haven't seen any of the soloists since the show.

Note: My mom is the one who made my Sugar Plum Fairy costume. Since I started ballet, she's made nearly all of my costumes.

An Update and a Bit of a Change

Hello all,

I've decided that I am going to make my blog a bit more about me, rather than continuing to make nearly all of my posts about other ballerinas. So from now on, you will see more posts on my travels, updates on ballet, possibly links to my youtube videos, and random ballet pictures.

Since I feel like I'm pretty much starting over, I'd like to make this post about introducing myself and telling you all what I've been up to.

Obviously, my name is Emma :) I am sixteen years old, and I'm an aspiring ballet dancer. I've been dancing for about four years. I do ballet six to seven days each week ( five days at the academy I currently train at, and one or two days at my old ballet studio that I attend for extra practice ). I live in Germany ( I've lived here for a little over three years ) so I attend a German ballet academy.  During my breaks at my ballet academy I teach ballet at my old studio and choreograph dances for their performances twice a year. I am also quite privileged to be able to perform with my old studio because I don't get many performance opportunities at my current academy ( because they like to focus on teaching us excellent technique rather than spending time teaching us dances for a performance ). The most recent performance that I danced in was The Nutcracker. I was given the role of Sugar Plum Fairy, and I really enjoyed being able to dance that part! In past performances I have been Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, Clara in The Nutcracker, the Snow Queen ( also in The Nutcracker ), and many other smaller roles. I suppose that is just about everything you need to know about me! If you have any questions, you can comment on this post, and I will try to respond pretty quickly.

I'm Back!!!

Hi guys!!! I'm so sorry that I haven't posted in so many months! I've just been so busy ( I've started going to a much more serious ballet academy, I've begun taking the train every day for an hour to get to ballet, I've had performances, and lastly, I've starting teaching preballet at my old studio)! I promise I'll post MUCH more often now! Thanks for understanding! Also, please check out my new youtube channel ( http://www.youtube.com/user/DanseurDeBallet?feature=mhee)!

P.s. HAPPY EASTER!
